Summer 2013 Anime

We're getting close to the end of this current anime season, and we already have a pretty good idea of what will be airing next season. Yes, it's that time again, where I shall list the anime of next season and my thoughts about them.

A chart for the summer season can be found here:
summer 2013 anime chart

As always, the list shall be in order of interest:

The World God Only Knows III

Synopsis:
Third season of The World God Only Knows.

Opinion:
Yes, yes, and YES!!! I'm a bit too giddy about this series, mostly because this season covers the Goddess/Old Conquest Arc, which features my favorite character of the series, Yui (the boyish girl who was once a generic shy rich girl), plays a big role in it. Also, it's my favorite arc in the manga, so I am definitely pumped for seeing this animated.

Danganronpa

Synopsis:
A group of 15 elite high school students are gathered at a very special, high class high school. To graduate from this high school essentially means you'll succeed in life, but graduating is very difficult. The school is presided over by a bear called Monokuma, and he explains to them that their graduation hinges around committing a murder. The only way to graduate is to kill one of your classmates and get away with it. If the other classmates discover the identity of the killer, the killer is the only one executed. However, if they fail to catch the killer, only the killer graduates and the others are annihilated. Which of the 15 will survive the bloodbath to come?

Opinion:
This is a show about a large group of over-exaggerated anime characters...trying to kill each other...YES! This show looks awesome, and boy, they have one hell of a cast. Their cast includes the voices of Kirby (YES) and Doraemon (never seen the show, but I most definitely know of it). Also the animation looks really good, it's kind of similar to Shingeki no Kyojin's. So yes, this is one of the shows I'm looking forward to the most.

Kimi no Iru Machi

Synopsis:
Eba Yuzuki, a girl from Tokyo moves to a countryside to attend high school. She lives together with a guy named Kirishima Haruto whose father is an apprentice of Eba's father. Haruto never agrees to let Yuzuki stay at his house and always rejects her. Another girl, Kanzaki Nanami, comes whom Haruto might be in love with. So... what will happen in this story?

Opinion:
I've been meaning to read the manga this is adapted from for quite some time, but never felt like doing it. I had watched an OVA based off of it, and it was a damn good OVA. Not to mention the manga it's based off of is a very popular romance series, and I do love my romances. This will indeed be a must watch for me.

Free!

Synopsis:
The story revolves around Haruka Nanase, a boy who has always loved to be immersed in water, and to swim in it. Before graduating from elementary school, he participated in a swimming tournament along with his fellow swimming club members, Makoto Tachibana, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rin Matsuoka. After achieving victory, each of the boys went their separate ways.

Time passed, and in the middle of their uneventful high school lives Rin appears and challenges Haruka to a match, showing Haruka his overwhelming power. Not wanting it to end like this, Haruka, gathers together Makoto and Nagisa once again and brings a new member named Rei Ryugazaki to create the Iwatobi High School Swimming Club in order to defeat Rin.

Opinion:
Oh, my sweet, sweet controversial swimming anime. I've been waiting for this ladies and gentlemen, a KyoAni show... all about MEN. Meh, just kidding, but I do look forward to watching this...for the swimming...yes...that's why... All jokes aside, I'm just hoping these guys act like guys and not like stereotypical shoujo manga guys.

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi

Synopsis:
God abandoned the world on Sunday. As a result, nobody in the world can die or reproduce. A little girl, Ai, is the gravekeeper for a village. She has prepared 47 graves for the eventual deaths of every member of the village. Later, a boy who identifies himself as "Hampnie Hambart, the 'Man-eating Toy'," which is coincidentally the name that Ai's mother left behind as the name of her father, arrives in the village and slaughters everybody. Just what is going on?

Opinion:
This show looks really good. I had seen the trailer for it, and boy am I hyped. However, there is one turn off for this show as it seems to me now, which is..it looks depressing. I love moving stories just as much as the next person, but when a show is really depressing, well, I don't feel "right" watching it. Don't get me wrong, I'm really interested in the story, but all I'm hoping is that it's not too depressing.

Gin no Saji

Synopsis:
Yugo Hachiken dreams of life separated from his family, so he takes the initiative by enrolling in an agriculture school. He thinks, with his talent in studying, no problems will arise no matter what kind of school he attends. He is proven wrong very quickly. Raised as a city boy, he is forced to uncover the inconvenient truth about agricultural life. Enjoy the story of Hachiken, as he tries to keep up with his new friends, farmers' heirs, who are already accustomed to the harsh world of farming. With no clear goals or understanding of farming life, how will Hachiken survive this new, cruel reality? The story of a sweat, tear, and mud-stained youth begins!

Opinion:
The transition from life in the city to life in the country is very harsh. This concept will be pretty entertaining, as we'll watch the main character either adjust to country life or be completely traumatized by it. Also, the author of the source material also made a little manga called FULL METAL ALCHEMIST, so needless to say, my expectations for this series are rather high.

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!

Synopsis:

Kuroki Tomoko is a super popular, high school girl who has had 50 years of dating experience and 100 boys... in the Otome game world. In the real world, she is a 15-year-old shut in who has all of the qualities of a "mojo" (a gloomy or unpopular woman).

However, when school isn't going as she expected, and she isn't as popular as she had thought she was, she takes a look at herself in the mirror for the first time in a few years, and has some shocking revelations...

Opinion:
I've heard some good things about the manga, and the main character seems somewhat relatable to the middle-school version of myself. Also, seeing how her social life progresses, or maybe not progress at all will most definitely be entertaining.

Blood Lad

Synopsis:
Staz is the vampire boss of a section of the demon world, but he has little interest in human blood. He's more infatuated with Japanese culture. When he learns that Yanagi Fuyumi, a Japanese teenage girl, accidentally wanders into the demon city, he jumps to the occasion. However, while Staz deals with an intruder on his turf, the oblivious Fuyumi is killed by a monster and becomes a wandering ghost. The disappointed Staz vows to her that he will find a way to bring Fuyumi back to life.

Opinion:
I believe I talked about this series around a year ago because a chart misled me into thinking it was airing then. Well, it took them long enough. Well, to be honest, this show looks stupidly interesting. As in, it looks so ridiculous it could be awesome. And, to be honest, these whole supernatural comedies really intrigue and entertain me, so I'm looking forward to watching it.

Gatchaman Crowds

Synopsis:
The story is set in Japan in the early summer of 2015. 180,000 people live in Tachikawa City, the "second metropolis" of the Tokyo area. Among them are "Gatchaman" — warriors who fight in special reinforced suits powered by "NOTE," the manifestation of special spiritual powers in living beings. A council has scouted a group of individuals with latent powers to protect Earth from alien criminals. In recent years, the council has assigned Gatchaman warriors to deal with the mysterious entity known as "MESS."

Opinion:
The synopsis confuses me, I have yet to see a trailer, I don't even know who any of the actors are. However, I noticed that the director of this series, Kenji Nakamura, has worked on some masterpieces and some really weird shows. So, that is enough to have me interested in this series. It also has aliens.

Genshiken Nidaime

Synopsis:
New series of Genshiken, adapted from the manga

Opinion:
Though I am very much excited for a new season of Genshiken, I can't help but worry about how this'll turn out. They replaced the entire cast, so I'm a bit iffy about it. But still, I love Genshiken! If they're adapting it from the manga it still holds a great deal of potential.

Brothers Conflict

Synopsis:
Hinata Ema is the only daughter of a famous adventurer, Hinata Rintarou. One day, Ema learns that Rintarou is going to remarry with a successful apparel maker named Asahina Miwa. Since she doesn't want to disturb them, Ema decides to move out and live with her 11 new brothers in a mansion called Sunrise Residence. As they live under the same roof, romance is starting to grow between Ema and the Asahina brothers.

Opinion:
Hello, ridiculously large step-brother reverse harem! Okay, I don't really have high expectations for this series, but I think it'll either turn out crazy or just plain ridiculous. Either way, I can't help but look forward to watching that unfold. So, yes, I'm quite interested in this series.

Servant x Service

Synopsis:
Anime about the staff of the health and welfare section of the ward office of a certain city. Newcomers Hasebe Yutaka, Yamagami, Miyoshi Saya, and their supervisor Ichimiya Taishi go through the everyday quirks of working at their office.

Opinion:
I'm looking forward to this series because it's about actual grown men and women at the workplace. That alone is a plus. Also, it doesn't seem to be a serious show, and I do like more mature comedies. So, yes, I look forward to watching this series.

Rozen Maiden (2013)

Synopsis:
Continuation of the Rozen Maiden series.

Opinion:
I enjoyed the other seasons of this series. By the looks of it they're going to include the real 7th doll, and a grown version of Jun, so that would be pretty interesting to watch. Also, the new visuals look very shiny.

Monogatari Series: Second Season

Synopsis:
Adaptation of the second season of the Monogatari Series.

Opinion:
It's always good for me to see more of the Monogatari series, but I do have a few issues with it. Mainly, the show is mostly dialogue accompanied by pretty visuals and ecchi, and that can get kind of boring to watch sometimes. But, apparently this season will be more like the first, which definitely makes it more appealing. Also, Kanbaru with long hair is also a plus.

High School DxD New

Synopsis:
Second season of Highschool DxD.

Opinion:
Uncensored ecchi is never a bad thing. It also helps that this series is hilarious and has some awesome ass-kicking in it. Also, new characters! How can one not look forward to this?

Recorder to Randoseru Mi☆

Synopsis:
Third season of Recorder to Randoseru.

Opinion:
The first two seasons of this short series were pretty enjoyable, so, why not go for the third? Also, I'm liking the change of animation style, it looks pretty cute.

Uchouten Kazoku

Synopsis:
In Kyoto, there are three kinds of residents: humans, raccoon dogs, and tengu. Shimogamo Yasaburou is the third son of the Shimogamo raccoon dog family. His father, Souichirou, had been the head of Kyoto raccoon dog community until he was eaten by the human members of "Friday Club". While taking care of old tengu, fighting with other raccoon dogs, and playing with a psychic human girl, Yasaburou approaches the truth of his father's death.

Opinion:
This concept sounds very interesting, though I don't know if the visuals will match up with it properly. Still, this does have a lot of potential, and I am most definitely going to give it a shot.

Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist

Synopsis:
The story revolves around William, an aristocratic family's progeny with rare intellect. One day, his uncle lost his possessions after his business failed. Fearing that his family's name has been tarnished, William returns home and searches with his family's butler for anything that can be converted into cash. A search of the premises yields an underground room left by an ancestor. In the room is a magical seal, and William unintentionally summons a devil. The summoned devil tells William his name Dantalion, and reveals that William is the designator who can choose the acting ruler of the demon world.

Opinion:
I'm not really too sure what to make of this series. The plot sounds extremely interesting, but then again, so did Hakkenden's and it was surprisingly boring. Hopefully this series will actually be interesting, and not just some fujoshi bait.

Kiniro Mosaic

Synopsis:
The story begins with Oomiya Shinobu, a 15-year-old, seemingly pure Japanese girl who actually did a homestay in Great Britain. Even after coming back to Japan, she still misses her time overseas. One day, an airmail letter arrives from Alice, the girl in Shinobu's host family in Great Britain. The letter reads: Shinobu, I'm coming to Japan! The Japanese/British girls' mixed comedy follows the lives of Shinobu, Alice, and other girls from both Japan and Great Britain.

Opinion:
This show looks really really cute. So cute, that I feel obligated to watch it because it's cute. If it's not cute...meh, I'll probably keep watching it.

Ro-Kyu-Bu! SS

Synopsis:
The second season of Ro-Kyu-Bu!

Opinion:
Lolis playing basketball: the sequel. Okay, I gave into the cute in this case. Plus, there's basketball, the only sport I actually enjoy watching AND playing.

Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou

Synopsis:
A story of girls who solve mysterious matters that occur in this world, using the mystical tarot cards that hold the power to read destinies.

Opinion:
I only have a vague idea of what this show will be about. The trailer looks good, really good. However, I do have some issues with the visuals a tad bit too on the cartoony side. However, it does have potential to be something very good, so I'll definitely give it a watch.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya

Synopsis:
Spin-off of Fate/stay night with Illyasviel von Einzbern as the protagonist, living an alternate life as a school girl.

Opinion:
Who's idea was it to take the loli from the fate series and turn her into a magical girl? Well, I'd give them a cookie, because it looks surprisingly decent (as a magical girl anime alone). However, there is a chance of this being really stupid, but, regardless, I'll watch it.

Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou

Synopsis:
A nonsense comical mystery. Harumi Kazuhito is a high school boy who loves books and is a fan of novelist Natsuno Kirihime. One day, he finds Kirihime writing at a cafe, about to be shot by a robber. He protects her from the attack but is killed instead. Through the supernatural power of a book-worm, he is reincarnated as a dachshund dog. Kazuhito (as a dog) writhes in a painful bookless life, when a sadistic woman carrying a pair of scissors offers him help. She is Kirihime herself.

Opinion:
This is a fairly odd concept, and to be honest, I'm not too sure whether to jump at it or cringe from a distance. I'll watch it anyway, but damn, this show sounds weird.

Fantasista Doll

Synopsis:
This original story revolves around cute dolls who fight and power up with special cards.

Opinion:
Cute dolls fighting each other...hm..I could've sworn something veerrry similar was earlier in this list. Okay, yeah, maybe it'll be different because they're using CARDS. So maybe it'll be a mix of Yu-Gi-Oh and Rozen Maiden. That sounds er...different, I'd watch it.

Love Lab

Synopsis:
The Fujisaki Girls Academy is known for their school body being composed of very proper students. The most prominent one of them is Maki, the student president who is admired by her classmates for her calm and polite demeanor. On the other hand, Kurahashi Riko is also admired but for having a very forward and boyish personality. Riko accidentally walks into Maki while she's practicing kissing with a pillow and learns that she isn't what everyone thinks she is. Riko is forced into keeping Maki's secret and join her in practicing all aspects of romance like holding hands and more.

Opinion:
I'm pretty okay with shoujo-ai series, though I have a feeling that this might not be that good. However, it does feature a bunch of up and coming voice actresses and some general newbies in the cast, and I do like hearing new voice actors and actresses. Plus, who knows, this might be decent, so I'll give it a chance.

Choujigen Game Neptune The Animation

Synopsis:
Set during 1989, it takes place in an alternate continuity where Planeptune is a small country, Lowee as a Japanese styled area and Leanbox as an invading overseas country. Lastation is an area connected with Planeptune.

Neptune is thrown into this continuity and embarks her adventure to get back. Because this is not the world/dimension or time she's supposed to live in, she is not in charge of Planeptune; a new character called Pururut also known as Iris Heart is.

Opinion:
This show looks like typical moe shit, but when I was looking it up I noticed the genre parody. That just may be enough for me to give this series a shot.

Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun 2

Synopsis:
Second season of Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun.

Opinion:
As I mentioned above, I'm not really the biggest fan of this series. I mean, yeah, the animation is nice, and the story is pretty good. The main problems with this series are the characters and the execution. I dislike boring sausage fests, and a vast majority of the time this show is one. If you're going to bore me to death, at least let me see a non-evil source of estrogen in every episode (they shipped her off to an all girls school). But, hopefully things will improve.

Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku

Synopsis:
When a friend asks Natsuki what high school club she's going to join, she cheerfully responds "the go-home club" (meaning, she's not going to join any of them). However, she soon realizes that this club actually exists at her high school, and she's just expressed interest in joining it! Before she knows it, she ends up as one of the two new members of "the go-home club," which is a small group of eccentric school girls. One of the girls likes fighting bears, while another is ridiculously rich. But what exactly constitutes the activities of "the go-home club"?

Opinion:
Oh boy, another cute girls show! This is getting ridiculous. So many times I've seen these eccentric girls hanging out shows fall flat on their faces, I'm not too sure if this'll be any different. But, hell, the visuals look nice, I'll give it a shot.

Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C³-bu

Synopsis:
Yura Yamato has just arrived at the high school division of Stella Women's Academy, when Sonora Kashima invites her to join a club called "C³". Sonora is the third-year student who became the new head of this club for military survival games. The other members include two second-year students (part-Japanese Karila Hatsuse and G36K-wielding Honoka Mutsu) and two other new students (Rento Kirishima whose family runs a Japanese sweets shop and the really short Yachiyo Hinata).

Opinion:
Another show about girls with guns. Meh, I'm not too fond of the idea. I couldn't get into girls in tanks, or girls being guns, so I don't know if I'll be able to get into this. We'll see though.

Gifuu Doudou!!: Kanetsugu to Keiji

Synopsis:
The Sengoku era gave birth to many historical legends. One of them is Naoe Kanetsuku, the brilliant military general of the Uesugi family. Together with Maeda Keiji, a legendary warrior on the battlefield, who become lifelong friends with each other, they carve out a piece of history in the most dangerous and volatile time in Japan’s history. The two men recall their beginnings and the journey they took to get to the accomplished position they now sit at.

Opinion:
Meh...I'm not really a fan of Sengoku era shows, and the only super-manly anime I liked was Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. So...to be honest I'm not too excited about this one. But, regardless, like everything else I will give it a chance.

Senki Zesshou Symphogear G

Synopsis:
The second season of Senki Zesshou Symphogear.

Opinion:
Oh..Symphogear...how much I love to hate thee. Yes, I'm going to watch it, because it is so absurdly stupid that I feel I should watch it if I don't want to miss a good laugh. Maybe by some strange twist of fate, it might not be as stupid as the first season, but I really doubt it'll improve.

Now, this season is looking pretty good. A lot of the shows have potential, and none of them look really bad (apart from Symphogear). But, we'll see how things really go when these series actually start.

I'm planning on updating this list more later on (because of lack of visuals, or I haven't seen the first season to a sequel), so stay tuned for those updates!

    1. I can't help but wonder how the author handles such a completely different genre. And you're gonna cosplay some Neptunia characters? That's pretty cool, do you guys make your outfits or buy them online?
