2011 Anime Character Awards

As I had said previously in my 2011 Anime Awards post, I'm going to do a character awards as well. Now, there will not be a top 10 or a top 20 for the character awards, just awards that's it. The awards will be distributed to each gender separately, so that there's equal opportunity. I used "most hated" instead of worst for that award because the characters that I put under there aren't uninteresting characters, I just really didn't like them.

The Awards

Cutest Male Character:

Toto Sakigami from Deadman Wonderland

He may have an extremely violent side, but the playful, childish side of Toto makes him adorable. When he's around Shiro he acts extremely friendly and comforting, and that's the side of him that got him this award.

Runner Up: Inga from UN-GO

Cutest Female Character:

Yune from Ikoku Meiro no Croisée

A young Japanese girl living in France. Just a look at that adorable face, and one's heart can't help but melt. She's incredibly innocent, and is just extremely sweet, no one can compare.

Runners Up: Rin from Usagi Drop, Nessa from Fractale, Victorique de Blois from GosickYuuko "Alice" Shionji from Kamisama no Memochou

Sexiest Male Character:

Aru Akise from Mirai Nikki

Even though he's fairly young, he still leaves a very adult-like impression. He's smart, he's good-looking, he's basically perfect, but he's got a bit of a weird side. Nevertheless, he is extremely attractive and his whole character was entertaining to watch.

Runners Up: Brian Roscoe from Gosick, Nezumi from No.6

Sexiest Female Character:

Haqua du Lot Herminium from The World God Only Knows II

She may not have the best bust, but I can't help but admit, her character is extremely attractive. Her tsundere personality is also a plus.

Runners Up: Yuri Tokikago from Mawaru Penguindrum, Takane Shijou from The iDOLM@STER, Nako Oshimizu from Hanasaku Iroha

Most Fabulous Male Character:

Nathan "Fire Emblem" Seymour from Tiger & Bunny

Nathan is extremely flamboyant, and that's what makes him charming. Though he does have a completely different personality when he is angry, he still maintains a very colorful personality and fashion sense.

Runner Up:
Sanetoshi Watase from Mawaru Penguindrum

Most Fabulous Female Character:

Yuri Tokikago from Mawaru Penguindrum

She's fabulous and she knows it. She wears beautiful clothes, her appearance is enviable, she's even a bit clever. She describes everything she does as fabulous. Heads turn when she enters a room, no woman in Mawaru Penguindrum can compete.

Best Character Development (Male):

Shuichi Nitori from Hourou Musuko

I really loved the character development with him. You watch as he grows up and learns to be more confident, even to the point of doing something that caused all of the kids at his school to bully him. He really is admirable, he really grew up in this series, and in such a short amount of time, too.

Best Character Development (Female):

Ringo Oginome from Mawaru Penguindrum

You know a character has awesome development when she goes from an extremely creepy stalker to a cute, pretty much normal girl. I hated her at the beginning of the series, because she really creeped me out, but as her character started to change, I grew to like her quite a bit.

Runner Up:
Victorique de Blois from Gosick

Best Male Protagonist:

Kotetsu T. Kaburagi  from Tiger & Bunny

He's clumsy, he's silly, he's a bit dumb, but for some reason he's extremely lovable. He's extremely kind and has a great sense of justice. He's a great friend to Barnaby, and the other heroes as well. He was an overall great and charming protagonist.

Runner Up: Rintarou Okabe from Steins;Gate, Makoto Niwa from Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko, Shinjuurou Yuuki from UN-GO

Best Female Protagonist:

Kurisu Makise from Steins;Gate

A genius girl is a rarity in anime. There are plenty of generic girls, whorish girls, but then you've got Kurisu. She's smart, she's witty, she's tsundere, she's got a very real personality. She definitely stood out amongst all of the female protagonists in 2011.

Runners Up: Victorique de Blois from Gosick, Ohana Matsumae from Hanasaku Iroha, Madoka Kaname from Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

Best Male Character:

Shuichi Nitori from Hourou Musuko

I honestly couldn't think of anyone better for this title. He had such great development, he's brave, he's got great friends to back him up, and even during some of his most difficult times, he was able to pull through.

Best Female Character:

Homura Akemi from Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

Homura Akemi is by far the best female anime character of 2011. When you think of the sacrifices she made, the suffering she went through all for Madoka's sake, she is truly a great character. The type of character one could even feel emotionally attached to.

Runners Up: Kurisu Makise from Steins;GateVictorique de Blois from Gosick, Ohana Matsumae from Hanasaku Iroha, Chihaya Kisaragi from The iDOLM@STER

Scariest Male Character:

Albert de Blois from Gosick

Albert de Blois is one hell of a scary bastard. He's kidnapped people, tortured people, and yet still has enough influence to lead. He's scary because he's evil, but also very powerful politically.

Runners Up: Tsunenaga Tamaki from Deadman WonderlandRyouta Iijima from Yumekui Merry, Hinata Kurenai from Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi

Scariest Female Character:

Yuno Gasai from Mirai Nikki

Yuno is by far the scariest anime character of 2011, she's absolutely insane, she constantly stalks Yukiteru, she can kill people without a second thought, not to mention she even kills those who are even remotely in the way of her plans. She definitely deserves this title.

Runners Up: Shiro from Deadman Wonderland, Mistletine from Yumekui Merry

Biggest Troll (Male):

Kyuubey from Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

When you mention Kyuubey to most fanboys, the first words that would come to their minds would either be troll, evil, and of course, "contract?" He even became a meme. And it's all because he tricked a bunch of girls into fighting witches for a single wish. Smart.

Runner Up: Baka Ki El Dogra from Level E, Sanetoshi Watase from Mawaru Penguindrum

Biggest Troll (Female):

Mai Minakami from Nichijou

Mai isn't a very blatant troll. She's a subtle troll, and everyone doesn't seem to care except for the oh-so-gullible Yuuko, who is extremely bothered by it and is usually the target, and occasionally Mio and Nano, her other good friends.

Runner Up:
Luna Mi Mad Magra from Level E

Most Annoying Male Character:

Takayuki Furuichi from Beelzebub

The typical girl-crazy best friend of a shounen protagonist. Yes, that is Furuichi, only a lot more girl-crazy. He may have the most brains in a school full of delinquents, but he is also the weakest, and most useless character in the series. Not to mention that, he's in pretty much EVERY episode.

Most Annoying Female Character:

Miki Hoshii from The iDOLM@STER

Miki Hoshii is a complete and total lazy-ass. She wants to become an idol without working hard, and thinks she can get away with it just because she's pretty and has big boobs. She causes a bunch of drama and the producer has to take responsibility for the stupid fits she throws. Practically everything about her annoys me.

Runners Up: Kyou "Orthros" Sawagi from Ben-To (both of them)

Dumbest Male Character:

Keith "Sky High" Goodman from Tiger & Bunny

This guy is really ditzy. I mean, REALLY ditzy. He can be really slow sometimes, but he's not so dumb that you can't stand it. He's lovably dumb, but still can be a bit irritating at times because of his stupidity.

Dumbest Female Character:

Run Momoki from A-Channel

There's a certain limit to how dumb you can make a character, and Run just goes above and beyond your expectations when it comes to stupidity. I mean, she is one of the most idiotic anime characters I have ever seen. I know she's meant to be so dumb she's cute, but Run is so dumb that she's just dumb.

Runners Up: Sakurako Ōmuro from Yuru Yuri, Saya from Blood-C, Yuuko Aioi from Nichijou

Worst Male Protagonist:

Yukiteru Amano from Mirai Nikki

I really hate wimpy main characters, and Yukiteru has got to be the biggest pussy main character I have ever seen. He's a complete crybaby, he can't handle the duty he has and even when those around him (Yuno mostly) try to help him, he can't do anything. He only does something by himself when he knows he's the only one who can, but those moments did not happen very often in the series.

Worst Female Protagonist:

Haruka Nanami from Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ Maji Love 1000%

This girl is by far the most generic, mary-sue-ish character I've seen in a long time. She literally has zero personality, she is a complete mary-sue and the worst part is, she isn't even very pretty. If it weren't for those evil cat eyes of hers, maybe she could be cute, but...no

Most Hated Male Character:

Albert Maverick from  Tiger & Bunny

I can't really say why I hate him, because if I do I would be giving out some MAJOR spoilers of Tiger & Bunny. If you want to know why I hate him, just watch the series all the way through, you'll eventually figure it out.

Most Hated Female Character:

Maho Nitori from Hourou Musuko

She's a major bitch. That really is all it takes to sum her character up. She doesn't like it when people comment that her brother is cute, and she REALLY doesn't like him in general. She blames him for everything that goes wrong with her, she can't accept that some things are her fault, she's just a complete and total bitch.

Runner Up: Moeran from Fractale
